Mainsprings and Winders

As a new hobbyist working on my second movement, I made a rookie mistake. In opening the mainspring barrel, the arbor was really holding on to the spring, and when I popped the lid, the mainspring exploded out.

My first option/preference would be to purchase a new/replacement mainspring, but I can’t find one for a Waltham 1802 series. That is the number stamped between the lugs as well as on the movement base itself. The inside diameter of the mainspring barrel is 9.0mm, the depth of the…

How to remove dial from Citizen 6100 quartz movement?

I need to remove the dial from an old citizen quartz watch. I believe the movement is a Citizen 6100. I believe the equivalent modern replacement for this movement is the Miyota GM02. I don’t see any area where the dial is connected to the movement. Is anyone familiar with this movement and do you know how to remove the dial? Is it possible that the dial is glued on to the movement. This is a citizen quartz watch from the early ’90s or the late ’80s.

Thanks for any help.

Rookie Numbers and Hairspring Help

Good morning all,

Just getting started learning how to service basic movements and the numbers are in on my first few services. I’ve been following Alex Hamilton’s tutorials on the ST36 and I am using HP1300 / 9504 grease / 9415 / 9010. For cleaning, I use a basic Amazon ultrasonic cleaner with L&R cleaner and rinse, and Hexane for the balance and fork. Probably beginner’s luck, but my very first service turned out better than expected (more about follow-on problems below). Note that I…

Corrosion under the dial

I guys, how’s going on?

Im writing because i was servicing an old timex and it had a bit of corrosion under the dial (i feel humidity made that corrosion)

So i scratched the blue/green corrosion with my tweezers but im worried about how it can develop over the time.

Do you feel its safe to leave as is? Or better to apply something? Maybe nail polish?

Happy to hear your thoughts
