My 1972 Timex 26950

I bought on a spur of the moment, perhaps wine fueled, ebay dive. It was $67 plus a tiny amount of shipping. It supposedly ran fine, the ebay ad even had a video of it running. But I had read about the M27 movement having issues with the day/date mechanism if not properly maintained. It is 53 years old, who knows if it had been maintained, right?

And when I got it I found the ugly truth, it didn’t run on the wrist, it would stop within minutes. The seller was upset at me for being upset…

As I’m sure you have seen by now, I recently got my hands on this 1915 Elgin wristwatch and I’m loving it more every day. I’ve never been shy towards daily wearing older watches, but when you get into the 1910s/20s you really have to start making some intentional choices about what should be worn regularly and what shouldn’t.

Well this sucks…

I’ve collected watches for a few decades now, finally got the itch to clean and attempt to do a basic service on a couple of thrift store beaters. I started pulling out my collection to gloat a bit, remembered that a couple of my favourite pocket watches were in a glass mug on a shelf. I have no idea what got into them or when. 1950’s Vulcain Cricket

Hi

New to the four and just started out in vintage watches, aiming for vintage watches with alarms, this Vulcain is my second purchase over a year, first was a : Seiko Bell Matic 27 Jewel 1969.

Bought this Vulcan Cricket , not sure that the dial is original:my uneducated observations:

1)The text “Vulcan ” on the dial seems thin.
2) The hands are not solid; the shape looks correct, other examples hands are solid with paint…
