Just Bought a Vintage Seiko Automatic Dress Watch

Image

I just bought this Seiko 7009-8279-P with the aim of servicing it to wear. I think it is from the late 1970s, but I’m not certain. I love the linen texture dial!

When I got it, it had a huge amount of beat error, 9ms, and was running 117 seconds a day slow. The crown would not push in all the way either. I opened it up and cleaned a bunch of gunk off the area where the back seals to the case. I pulled the stem and found the inside of the crown was…

Strap/buckle Archaeology- IWC and Omega

As I have been collecting vintage watches for some years now, I find more and more that it’s hard to beat the styling of a period correct strap/bracelet on a watch. With bracelets, it’s a simple enough job of cross-referencing known original examples and catalogues and buying an original. What Makes a Vintage “Dress” Watch?

I think it goes without saying that, based strictly on the style, a huge number of vintage watches are percieved as “dress watches,” even if they were intended to be worn everyday. RIP my 1969 Swiss Air edition ARSA watch.

My 1969 ARSA swiss air railway pocket watch died.

On the same day i got my 992 back from the watchmaker for a warrenty repair too.

It ticks for a few seconds then stops, fully wound.

I haven’t worn it that much if at all, only since november last year but not for 2-3 months of this year.

Not sure what my next step should be? i bought the watch off a user of this forum circa 2019, name was journeyforce.

Vintage pocket & wrist watches for May 2025

I’ll do the honours this time and open a thread for the new month.

Currently wearing my Enicar Sherpa Star that has recently come back from my watchmaker. I always wanted one of those, with the “volcano / bark skin” finish… I also lucked out and found an Enicar bracelet that is a 90% fit (with a slight gap to the case, and a hammered instead of “bark” finish… but hey).

Sorry for not setting the date to the first, but being May Day, I was a bit lazy 😉

Wishing you all a great start to…
