I'm not a watchmaker, but I've had a timegrapher for a few years now and I thought I would explain how I use mine for those considering getting one. I'll also explain how you absolutely don't need one to perform at least the accuracy measurement of your watch. I have no idea if my methods are the best or most organized, but they work for me.
