A-13A Flyback has arrived!

Just got this today. Now I own the original quartz and the latest mechanical version of the A-13A. The mechanical version is naturally more expensive as it contains a specialized Dubois-Depraz movement, but there’s other refinements like an improved textured caseback, calfskin strap, polished bezel that’s a separate piece, and improved lume. Check it twice on the timegrapher and both times it averaged less than 1 spd error over 5 positions. I did notice something kinda strange about the…

How I use a timegrapher

I’m not a watchmaker, but I’ve had a timegrapher for a few years now and I thought I would explain how I use mine for those considering getting one. I’ll also explain how you absolutely don’t need one to perform at least the accuracy measurement of your watch. I have no idea if my methods are the best or most organized, but they work for me. It seems as if there’s just entirely too many watches with rotating bezels that hardly need them. Most will rarely if ever be used and the penalty is a smaller dial than would otherwise fit on the same size case. A recent example of this is the Omega Planet Ocean Worldtimer. I get that the Planet Ocean line is a dive watch, but I can’t help but thinking this would have been a much better non-dive watch sans the rotating bezel and something smaller than dinner plate size. It’s not as if…

Vintage watches, what I’ve learned and why you should own one or more and my recommendation

Vintage watches can be a true joy to own and wear or they can be a complete nightmare. What your experience will be greatly depends on your expectations. Much of the reason people love mechanical watches has to do with the nostalgia of a mechanical instrument that for the most part has been relatively unchanged for a few hundred years. What better way to enjoy that experience than to acquire a watch that is several decades old and came from an era when there simply was no other option…
