Why is VK67/8T67 not the standard for mecaquartz watches?

I own a Seiko with a 8T67 movement (running seconds, 1 hour and 12 hour subdials). Non-Seiko watches with the same movement type use the VK67. Although I rarely time anything beyond one hour, the one thing I appreciate is that the watch does not have the ridiculous 24 hour subdial to give the dial some balance. With the VK63 and VK 64 movements, one gets the 24 hour subdial which mimics the actual time. Short of living in an environment without sun, say a submarine or in a cave, one…
