Hello,
I recently purchased a 1970s Zenith watch with an automatic 2542 PC movement.
According to the official Zenith catalogs, this caliber is listed with 23 or 25 jewels, whereas on the oscillating weight of my watch it is marked as having 17 jewels.
The seller explained to me that this would be a model intended for export to the USA; for customs reasons, Zenith allegedly used rotors and oscillating weights marked with a lower jewel count in order to reduce duties.
