Why not 1/60 of a second, which is a third, rather than 1/100 of a second?

Hour, minute, second, third – the hour is divided into 60 minutes, the minute divided into 60 seconds and the second is divided into 60 thirds, but some chronographs claim to measure to 1/100 of a second. Why 1/100 and not 1/60?
