What did the tritium lume look like?

For any of our older members here that remember, what did it look like? Perhaps like modern lume paint right after the UV light or sunlight? Just a very strong glow all the time, until the tritium finally died? Genuinely curious. Reckon nobody was doing lume shots back then .
