I noticed Watchcollecting.com increased their sellers’ fees from 6% to 10% earlier this year (I think)
I always thought they were a great platform to buy watches from at good prices and an equally good source of info about real world values on watches, useful given the over-inflated sums being thrown about on Chrono24 and by private dealers generally.
However the increased fees seem to have had an impact on the amount of watches, the type and their quality that are now available on that site and at the same time, they seem to be listing more watches from abroad, which I personally find off-putting.
They’ve also stopped grading watches, so no more or AA or A … they just list most as ‘the vendor confirms the watch to be in good working order’.
I get that they are just a platform to connect seller and buyer and they obviously have to be careful about their exposure, should something go wrong, but they used to be better IMO.
Just a bit disappointing because for a while, that site was a good place to buy and a good barometer of what particular pieces are actually worth.
