When the watchmaking tools include a socket set….

Important safety edit: Wear gloves or use nice block of soft wood if you’re using sockets to get the crystal out. I’m still feeling a couple of lugs in my palm, 24 hrs later.

Your reminder that sometimes automotive tools can help fix watches.

Had some fun on the work bench this long weekend with a vintage “VaLaire” 21 Jewel Super DatOMatic (by Mortima) dive watch that I (predictably) picked up at an online auction…and without considering the hints as to the size (the case is only…

Long term storage of gaskets

I have a watch that I love (a Grand Seiko) and I would like for it to stay waterproof for as long as possible. It is getting somewhat long in the tooth, and I know that after 30 years parts – especially gaskets – will become hard to find.

I have a few…

Dial numeral outline repair

I’m practicing on this water damaged timberland watch, and noticed that the outlines of the 2 numeral and 3 o’clock indice has fallen off. What would you use to put it back into place? Some type of jeweller’s glue? Thanks for any tips.

Figured I’d take a stab at making a watch

Been working on a project making strap adapters for my Oris Aquis. Now that the prototype is off to be machined, figured I’d work on a watch and post up as I go.

Intent is to use a La-Joux Perret G100 movement, so SW200/2824 envelope. 42mm diameter case. Lug to lug around 48mm.

Modeled up a fairly standard case to start with, just for working out all the internals for the movement.

Printed up a quick mock up to check proportions.

ETA 7750 25 jewels Day/date wheels on 17 jewels movement?

My 80’s 17 jewels ETA 7750 Chrono have some day/date wheels that have seen better days. But most I can find with german day wheels are described as “2010+ movements”…

Will the ETA 7750 day date wheels from later movements fit the 17 jewels movement?
And if not a direct fit, what need to be done to make them fit – if possible?

WOTB this week? 2-16-25

I spent a few hours with this one yesterday. I am testing my eyesight! Are things getting smaller, or am I just getting older? LOL

The hardest part was removing the hair spring stud and replacing it after oiling the cap jewel. It seems I could use mor…

Hello new user with Gruen question

I hope this is the right place to post this. I looked for a Gruen section but I guess it doesn’t exist. I have a 710rss that I purchased and am trying to source a crystal for. But everywhere I’ve looked I can’t find a part number related to the watch t…

Service this Tag Heuer 1964 Re-Edition CS3110 ?

I recently acquired a TAG Heuer Carrera Classic Chronograph 1964 Re-Edition CS3110 with Lemania 1873 caliber. The watch aesthetically is in good condition with no major dings or scratches. The timegrapher shows about +20spd with an amplitude of 260deg and 0.1ms beat error (lift angle 50deg).
It’s a ~25 year old watch with unknown service history.
I am planning on wearing it, keeping it, and passing it on to my kids.

Question: would you send it for full service now or wait?

Servicing/Parts for Sellita SW510 M BH B

Hello there!

I recently bought a Nivada Grenchen CASD from a seller on ebay. It arrived in excellent condition aesthetically, but it was stopping over night. This morning it had stopped again and I was able to get it to run again after engaging the chronograph. It kept running (and still is) all morning. I took it to my local watchmaker to see what was up.

Watchmaker found a shattered jewel on the minute wheel. He was able to clean it up but he said he’d never seen a movement with this…
