Databases with information in vintage movements

Sorry for the following oftopic, probably these discussions could deserve their own thread.

Let’s take a broader view at this accessibility issue. How do you think that could be improved?

Help w/ID Diamant Watch Co Pocket Watch

hi everyone. i kinda’ stuck my neck out on this watch yesterday at a local thrift store. i could find next to nothing on the Diamant Watch Co online. the case is stamped 18K. it measures approximately 44mm across in width. there is no name on the movement. also, it’s overwound and doesn’t work. the tiny hallmark is a possibly greek head in profile(very difficult to photograph). i’m wondering how old is this watch? does it have collectors value? is it worth fixing? how much should…

To Replace or Not to Replace

Generally speaking, is it better to replace the rusted hands of a vintage pocket watch or keep them because they’re original? Does that also apply to the dial? I picked up an Elgin 345 Grade 3 and it looks like the old acrylic crystal is the culprit. I’m pretty new to pocket watches and I don’t want to mistakenly destroy some wildly collectable watch, but if this will only fetch $90 in mint condition I probably don’t want to spend the money anyway.
