Which to buy – Rolex Explorer 1 versus Submariner no date?

I am seeking to add a Rolex to my collection this year. It would be my first ever. I’ve been very conflicted about the brand due to all the hype, hysteria, and everything else that is associated with Rolex, especially since the Pandemic.
