Are you into watch case design? Any faves?

There are dozens of characteristics of watches to consider when looking for a watch, but I think case design is further down on the list than some others for most. More importance is usually given to the dial, hands, bezel, type of movement, bracelet, brand, maybe lume, etc. Not only buyers but often the watch brands themselves place less importance on case design. Just look at Rolex, or Seiko. Sub cases are nice and certainly handle the job, but to me they’re a bit boring. It does help if…

New Timegrapher, inexpensive TGBC model from E-bay and test results from my collection.

Well I’m dabbling with watch making a little and am currently trying to restore a 1925 Elgin Pocket watch so I got a timegrapher. I found a very inexpensive option on E-bay for about $34. It was way cheaper than the common Weishi 1000’s seriers. I couldn’t find much info about it so I thought I’d share my experience here. There was one thread somewhere and someone chimed in saying they believe the sensors come from the same factory as the Weishi ones but take that for what it is, third hand…

Import duties on watches carried back from Japan to US

Hey WUS! I’m on vacation in Japan from the US and dropped into a Don Quixote to buy souvenirs. I was surprised to see an extensive selection of Omegas at what appear to be decent prices (recent JPY-USD conversion rates notwithstanding) and was wondering what US customs would charge me were I to return with one. I know the recent tariff kerfuffle has changed things but I have no idea whether they apply to this type of purchase as I’m a n00b to international shopping.
