Recreation of a 1968 Vintage: SLGW005

I’ve often been on the verge of buying a 44GS or 45GS Vintage, but have always backed out at the last second. But now the decision was actually made the second I saw this watch on Instagram – at the latest when I read the specs. Almost 1:1 to the historical model (with a more wearable size for me) and the new 5Hz Hi-Beat caliber 9SA4 with manual winding and 80 hours power reserve. That’s it – take my money Grand Seiko.

Okay, limited to 1,200 pieces, that doesn’t bode well for the German…

Struggling to love my first Grand Seiko

I recently got an SBGE285 that I bought to be my new daily wear but despite researching many GS models and trying it on in store twice before buying, I’m just not getting on with it but I can’t quite put my finger on why. I seem to be trying to convince myself that this is a great watch and I should just let the subject go and yet I keep revisiting it.

Maybe it’s the large size? It wears bigger than a normal 41mm because of the wide lugs and thickness…

Hi all. I’ve been a proud GS Spring Drive owner for a couple of years now, but shockingly (embarrassingly?) this is actually my first post in this forum. If you think GS bracelet screws are small…

In various threads we’ve discussed how tiny and easy-to-lose the GS bracelet screws are. For something that actually needs to be manipulated now and again they are indeed quite small.

But if you think GS bracelet screws are small, you’ve never had to install or remove rate adjusting screws from an early 1970’s Bulova Accuquartz. Those things are so small that you really have to wonder what infernal device they used to machine them.
