I was hoping somebody might have some ideas. I bought a brand new Rolex Explorer 124270 from an authorised dealer in the UK in May 2022. Paid RRP and all that. I now live a few hundred miles away from that dealership.
I wore it daily until this winter, when the timekeeping went from perfect to terrible very quickly. I went to my local dealer and explained the situation. I was told that they were more than happy to sort things out with Rolex, but first of all, I had to troubleshoot slightly. They said that it’s supposed to be handwound every day (!?) and if you don’t do this, the timekeeping will be erratic. They said that after trying this for two weeks, they’d take the watch and get warranty work sorted with Rolex.
I tried this, but obviously this didn’t fix it and the timekeeping remained terrible.
I went back to that dealership and was told to bring my warranty card. They couldn’t help without it. Here is the problem:
I believe that the original dealership must have kept the warranty card, but try as I might, I can’t get hold of them. I know the business is still trading and it’s respected and well-known and established. Is it true that Rolex really will not do anything without the card? The first person at the local dealership (who told me to wind it daily) also told me that Rolex would take it without the card because they can get the info from the serial number, but now on subsequent visits, they’ve changed that stance.
I have all other box and receipt and papers and spare links etc. I don’t really want to do a 600-mile round trip to see the original dealer in person, especially when they may not have it or may tell me there is a lead time to procuring it.
Any advice/thoughts would be highly appreciated. Let me know if anything isn’t clear – I have a habit of messing things up when trying to explain myself in detail!
