Rolex 1601 crown dedate

I'm currently having a Rolex 1601 for sale, and the case is stainless steel with a 14k White Gold bezel. The thing is, I have a buyer who told me that the crown is not original for this 1601, since it was supposed to be white gold to match the bezel. Is he correct? As far as I remember 1601 steel case always comes with steel crown. Thanks!
