“Occasion” watches?

A question: I have seen on a few European watch vendor websites the term "Occasion" to describe watches. What is the origin? A watch to wear on a special occasion? Weddings? Funerals? Dinner parties? Your birthday? Would it be the same as a "Dress" watch?
