Leather Jackets – Horsehide or Steerhide

I’m looking for a new leather jacket in the new year and I’ve been looking at a few.
I am looking at horsehide but the websites are full of detail that I don’t really understand.
Steerhide appears to be thicker and heavier, horsehide to have denser fibres and take more wearing in.
Can owners advise which they have chosen and how they have found it? It will be helpful for my final selection.
I’m not a biker so I’m not needing anything to withstand any spills.
