There, I said it. I'm sure it's been said many times before on this forum. But that's because it's so obviously true.
How can you live with the shame of wearing an expensive piece that tells worse time than a 100 dollar mass produced widget? One you can jump on and it will still probably work fine. Where is your utilitarian spirit? Love of function? We used to be nation that knew how to put a proper value on the function of a thing.
