I default to treat my watches this way to prevent any cross-threading – but it also works when a thread such as the crown feels gritty.
Applying a tiny amount of the humble anti-seize copper paste into the threads eliminates the gritty threads feeling if it exist – and also works for preventing damages/seizing in the threads.
