Like every year, I think it's fun to watch the GPHG competition, and they've published the competing watches for this year. These watches are paid entries in each category from a lot of brands. They then get whittled down by judges to 6 "nominated" in each category (sometime soon) before a final voting on the winner in each category. The winners are announced in November.
