There have been three major approaches to improving quartz accuracy:
1) use a thermally insensitive XO
2) control the frequency of the XO by varying the capacitance of the oscillator circuit
3) arrange the circuit to divide the frequency of the XO by a variable rather than fixed amount, to account for temperature variation
