I’ve been thinking lately who actually buys the expensive Seiko watches. Before you say anything, I know we, as watch enthusiasts, do, but that’s not enough for Seiko to justify making the higher end pieces.
I can’t see the layman spending so much on what is effectively "just a Seiko", when there are competitors like Tudor, Tag Heuer, Breitling etc.
Maybe the small subset of people in this hobby is sufficient enough for Seiko. I don’t even see the average person buying a midrange prospex (£1k+ Prospex but not the 8L35 range). It does feel like that if Seiko re-brands it’s higher end range, they would sell more of them.
What are your thoughts?
