Had a Gruen 370 Curvex on the bench today.
knew it would require hairspring work going in, but had not forseen this:

Gruen hairsprings are generally known to be soft (or kind of mushy, as my watchmaking instructor put it)…and thus easily distorted…often just under the weight of the suspended balance.
Seems that some one damaged the orignal and tried to replace it…but the collet was too large.
