Can one credit card payment rejection lead to another card being flagged?

TZ-UK Forums TZ-UK Forums trott3r

hello,
I had a weird experience with a halifax clarity master card with which i bought some softwre for my new (to me ) mac.
With it being black friday i rushed it through after work on a vpn set for switzerland hence i paid in CHF (swiss currency).
I doubt i have paid in that currency before and since its the first bit of mac software i have bought could of flagged the payment assuspicious.

I got the email with the registration code through and it worked fine with the software.
however during the week i have been geting automated (robot voiced) phone calls saying my card had suspicious activity
and ring the supplied number.

I thought originally that is was fake as the phone call was automated.
Also i logged into my halifax account and nothing was in messages about a problem
Next i read through my email and no email message from halifax either.
So i left it alone.

Tried to use the card again on friday and it was declined.
Tried another hsbc card and that was declined as well.
Sadly my third american express card is not supported with the new website.
So i went ahead with my debit card from hsbc and it went through.

So my question is is it possible that halifax has shared information with hsbc about my card?
Does seem odd that both are declined.

Or are some websites particularly fraud aware and very particular of exact details being
entered compared to other online shops?
ie m surname rather than martin surname

thanks for your time
Martin
