Blank Rehaut on Rolex 1630

Hi everyone,

My late grandfather’s old Rolex was passed down to me and has just sat in the safe for years. Recently I’ve been getting into watches and after doing some research on the model I couldn’t quite figure out why his particular watch had a blank rehaut. It is my understanding that they only made around 1500 of this odd model (OysterQuartz design with automatic movement) and because of that I haven’t found a ton of images or discussion around it even on this forum. From what I’ve read it seems as though the rehaut is part of the case and if it was changed the whole case must have been switched out during service at some point? I have also seen that in that era (early 70’s) Rolex made some weird decisions with their servicing but this is the only 1630 I have seen with the rehaut blank. If anyone has any answers or could tell me what this means for the value of the watch and if it could/should be fixed I would greatly appreciate it!
