Best small field watch for less than $1000?

Currently, I’m looking at the Hamilton 36 mm but the lug to lug is very long. My wrist is 6.5 inches and I want something a little bit smaller. What’s the best field to watch I can get for the money? I am also intrigued by the benrus dtu-2a. It is only 34 mm and 40 lug to lug. I think I prefer those proportions, but it is a little bit more expensive and does not have the same prestige as Hamilton.
Are there any repro models you guys would suggest that would compete with these two?
