Mechanical Watches with Unique/Interesting Complications

I love looking at unique or unusual complications! Some of the ones I like the most though tend to be waaaay out of my price range.

I’m curious looking at non-quartz mechanical in the affordable section (say sub 1k?) does anyone have any really unique or unusual watches with special complications they like? Im not looking for something to buy for myself (at least in the short term) so much as just to see some fascinating watches in this category! If anyone owns any?

What do you look for in high quality leather bands

I’m currently shopping for some leather high quality military/nato bands. And im not looking so much for a specific recommendation (though hey feel free to throw one out if you have it) as tips (or guides?) for what to look for in these.

Style wise you can get a sense from the pictures.

And if it is a trustworthy/well liked place from the reviews.

But I find I don’t really know what im looking for in the sense of why one band is 150 dollars and another 30. OR what is a good…

Question on How Power Reserves Work

I had a general question about watch power reserves that I couldn’t find a clear answer to with my google skills, but I figured people here would know. Mostly what I was thinking as I stared at my watch!

So, the question is, how does power reserves actually work? As in, my understanding (from the always reliable internet) is that the watch doesn’t just instantly stop, but as the power reserve runs out will start to slow down and then slowly come to a stop.

So im curious when you see a…

Accessories and Tools that are necessary?

Hello all! I’m curious as someone relatively new to the hobby what accessories folks actually recommend or find they use. I do want to change bands/bracelets on my watches, but probably lack the confidence to do much more (like trying to open the backs of the watches etc).

I have the bergeon spring bar tool (been very helpful already).

Other things ive had people told me are important basic tools are:

A watch band/bracelet holder (plastic block)
Extra Spring Bars (if anyone had…

Watch Papers question

So, got my first watches (loving them). Im just curious what exactly constitutes a watches ‘papers’. I often see that referenced (papers and boxes) as something to make sure you save.

Are papers the receipt from when you bought it? Or is it more.. my watches came with like a warranty card and an instructors manual. Is that what folks mean? I hope the second as one of the watches was a gift…

Two First Watches (and some amazing friends)

Hey all! I just had the most amazing first watch experience with the most amazing friends and I thought i’d share it with you all.

So. Like many I suspect, I have gotten real into the watch craze the last few months, reading about them watching videos, researching, etc. I had never owned a ‘real’ watch before (a perfectly fine citizen quartz cheap beater i got in college but nothing mechanical).

As I got into watches, I started saving up money to buy my first watch. Probably annoyed…

Advice/Tips on Watch Size

Hello all,

New to watch collecting (and this forum) and I thought i’d break in by asking some advice!

After reading, researching, and saving for a few months I just ordered my first watch… a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 42mm. It hasn’t arrived yet (I had to order it from an Authorized Dealer who didn’t have it in stock) but am super excited and looking forward to it!

The only real question in my mind, is i had been very torn on whether to get the 38mm or the 42mm and the AD didn’t…
