Teach me about Fit and Finish

My wonderful spouse is giving me a watch for my birthday. Of course she’s letting me pick it out. I’m not sure what her budget it but I’m guessing we’ll be looking in the $1,500 to $2,500 range.

I’ve alreday done some shopping, we live in a rural area, but I did go into the “big city” last month and tried on watches in that price range, and even higher.

My only points of reference for new, medium quality watches are my Seiko GMT and my Bulova Hack. Neither of these watches are in that…

New Watch Collecting Achievement

So today I did something I’ve never done before, I bought a watch while making dinner!

So I’ve been thinking about the Bulova A-15 Pilot, and I’ve also been thinking about the Marathon Officer’s GPM.

I’ve been going back and forth between the two of them, paralyzed. I’ve watched all the videos, read all the blogs.

The A-15 would be perfect if it was a little smaller, in both diameter and thickness, and I’m also worried about the non-screw down crowns at 2 and 4. So I didn’t add it to any…

How do I trust the seller?

Everyone says “trust the seller,” but how do you learn enough to do this?

This isn’t just theory, I’m considering buying a vintage (1970s) Japanese watch. The seller has great feedback with lots of happy customers, is that enough?

I’ve read countless horror stories of newbies, like me, paying too much for franken watches. I’ve seen list of countries known for making frankens, and the seller doesn’t live in any of those countries.

But how can I vet the seller? I guess at a minimun I could…

Help me pick a red watch

I really enjoyed the recent “Green watch to celebrate milestone birthday (under $1,000)” thread and I’ve been going through a similar search, except for red.

I’m looking for something super bright, 12 raised numerals, no date, mechanical and from a brand with at least a shred of heritage. I’ll buy the bracelet but probably wear it on multiple straps. I realize that not all of these criteria will be hit. But bright, bold, red is non-negotialble.

I’m in the USA if that matters, I’m not…

Inexpensive GMT with numerals, not indices

A friend of mine is not a watch person, but he was admiring my Seiko SSK 017.

Image

So much so he has already added it to his amazon cart about a week ago and last night he was about to click “Checkout.”

Then he said, “The one thing I don’t like about my Invicta” is that it doesn’t have numbers.

I told him to look at my Seiko, yeah, no numbers.

I told him I’d look around for a GMT with a similar vibe with numbers. My…
