Unpopular Opinions: You can’t have both

There are certain opinions which really make me shake my head (and probably I am guilty of many) that involve people making self-contradictory statements.

From my experience as a bicycle mechanic, I see the same thing regarding watchmakers and service costs, here.

So, You Can’t Have Both:

You can’t bemoan the decline of skilled watchmakers and also complain about the cost of decent service.​

Watch toughener

Seems like a decent part of what makes a G-Shock among the tougher watches on the planet is the outer polymer shroud, which protects the actual case.

So… no-brainer, if we’re talking tough watches, to produce a mechanical watch with a similar protection system. There’s already the Mühle-Glashütte SAR models with the rubber bezel. It would not at all surprise me if someome popped up with some obscure brand/model who did something like a full-surround protective shroud – closest I can think…

Women’s moonphase

Looking for a women’s moonphase watch as a gift. Moonphase never interested me much as a complication, but she’s into it.

Women’s moonphase, meaning:

  • Smaller the better, but ideally 32-36mm.
  • Actual moonphase, meaning 29.5 days moon cycle.
  • Best would be some feminine touches about the watch face, not just a scaled-down dude’s watch.

What’s out there?

When I search, there’s just too many night/day indicators masquerading as actual moonphase, cluttering up results.
