Telemeter Bezel
Telemeter scales on watches have a rather horrific history: they first got popular during World War 1 when soldiers wanted to calculate how far away mortar fire was. Telemeters work by exploiting the delta between the speeds of light and sound. Activate the chronograph when you see something (like a flash of mortar fire or lightning); stop the chronograph when you hear its corresponding sound. The chronograph seconds hand will be indicating how far away the flash was. Pretty neat! But unlike on a tachymeter, the units are predefined, so Omega needed to make two versions of the telemeter bezel–one measured in miles and one measured in kilometers.

I didnt see anything like this being used when I worked with/for mortar platoon, then again I wouldnt know to look for it.
Yes I was in the British Army get over it you BP mongs.(mong in British English, slang"a foolish person" (and exceedingly derogatory when we used the word).
In a new move ive retaliated before youve slunk of and started yer nonsense in the BP.

Telemetric (offered in both kilometers/miles)

Description: The Telemetric scale is graduated to indicate the speed of sound in air. This allows the user to calculate the distance between the observer and a situation that is observable both visually and audibly.

Description of Operation:
On an optical signal, start the chronograph. When you hear the sound stop the chronograph. The number indicated at the distance in kilometers or miles (depending on scale).

Examples of Use:
At the flash of a bolt of lightning start the chronograph. Stopping the chronograph when you hear the thunder (in the case of the diagram at left at 5 Seconds) will indicate on the Telemetre ring 1.6km or 1600 meters away from the wearer of the watch. Sounds like a good time to take cover! =)
