An oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) is said to be chronometrically superior to a thermocompensated XO (TCXO) such as those we have in our HAQ watches.
I gather it is because the ‘oven’ maintains the XO in its turnover temperature, where the TC curve has zero slope. Therefore, the small changes in XO temperature that occur even despite the oven would have only a tiny effect on the XO rate.
