Curiously a search didn't show a thread for this:
I find a black dial/white indices with a dash of color for the seconds hand to be the perfect compromise between legibility and measured fun.
The best example to date which made me forget all my other watches:

What watch with a black dial and colored seconds hand do you own or like ?
