I am a massive Saab 96 fan. (I have 3 currently…). But for me, one version stands out from then crowd. The 1979 Jubilee Version: 35 yrs of Saab in the Netherlands.
The factory did a run of 400 or 500 cars in this colour, but only the 150 Dutch so-called ‘Jubilee’ cars had a Tobacco interior and ‘soccer ball wheels’. (The non-Dutch version had a blue interior and Ronal wheels, btw).
This metallic blue was not a good colour for Saabs. The lousy prep and paintjob in the factory caused a lot of trouble. These car rusted faster than an Alfa Sud! Especially this colour was very weak! So, only a handful survive(d). And this one is well taken care of.
The 96 was imported into GB until 1973, 74. Later versions were built in Finland, in the plant were later the Saab Cabrio and Porsche Boxter were built. Apart from the rubber bumpers, there’s one other thing that sets those later Saabs apart from the earlier ones: the seats. These are much better than the old ones.
The asking price is steep. Maintenance and a service/restoration history is all important to justify that price. Let’s see if I can add one more…
