I know for a fact that BMW did something similar 10, 12 yrs ago. They tried to team up with German electronics manufacturers. The big name companies. That didn’t work out. So they targeted individual employees of those companies to come over. One of them was my wife’s colleague. A tech wizard from Philips Electronics. He ended his career as a board member of BMW AG before his (very early) retirement last year.
