Seems like back in the day, there were several manual wind chronograph movements to choose from (2 register and 3 register).
Movements that come to mind are Venus, Landeron, Lemania, and Valjoux.
With Landeron, you got the cal 49, 349, etc. With Valjoux, you could get the 7733, 7734, 7736, etc.
Most of these movements were used in the 60s70s Skin Diver Chronos (which are my current obsession).
Where/what are the current iterations of these simple albeit robust manual movements?
