I’ve just finished reading the excellent book SBS Silent Warriors by Saul David about the formation of the SBS and their exploits in canoes and submarines and on the beaches of various theatres in the second world war. There are are couple of references to waterproof watches being issued but beyond that there’s no further information given.
Do any of you knowledgeable folk have any idea what they might have been? Obviously the Italian units operating at the same time were wearing Panerai and an internet search brought up a Lemania powered watch with waterproof case which was supposedly RN issue but that’s about as far as I’ve got.
Given how important timing was to these missions (ensuring rendezvous’s with submarines, the rise and fall of the tide etc.) they must have been issued quite widely within the teams?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
