After your military service or your relative’s military service is done, do they keep the issued watch and do they continue to wear it?

I’m quite curious because there are bunch of WWI and WWII era watches that were used by soldiers and because they survived, it made me wonder if anyone from the military brought their military issued watches home and continued to wear them even after their service.
