Elgin A-17A legit or not?

Hello, pilot's and mil timepieces board. First time posting here, as I'm primarily a vintage Accutron collector.

I found this wonderful Elgin A-17A several years ago at an outdoor antique fair. I purchased it in a lot of 3 total pieces, with this being the main "target."

While these pieces aren't my forte I had more than a feeling this was something special and I thought it to be legit. I've done some research on it but felt it's time to post here for some critique.
