1960s Bomb Disposal watch

TZ-UK Forums TZ-UK Forums bwest76

Been watching some great "Look at Life" news clips.

3 minutes in with the Navy bomb disposal you can see 2 what look like issued watches on grey issued straps close up.

Pretty sure the straps arent Phoenix but are military.

I cant work out what the watches are,I have tried google, have you any idea?

I’ve played that section back a few times still no joy.

Last year I met an RAF bomb disposal expert operating in NI same time period I was out there,he was based in Aldergrove.

He opened my eyes to the dangers/work load of the RAF.

He told me they were desperately exhausted beyound limits and short staffed.

Leading to him being blown up by a car bomb along with his ATO who was killed (he would have been killed himself but was going back to the wagon for something),he was carrying a lot of mental and physical scars.

I had thought it was the Army Felix crews that had been doing it all,I had done a little bit supporting them in Belfast (not at the sharp end though).

Anyway intriqued as to what the watches are.

I just had another look the 2 officers and the OR all have watches on.
