Shout Out for Our Bench Guy – Memovox Content

Our Bench Guy serviced my Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox E855. I received it back from him a week ago. He hit it out of the park!!!

I bought the watch 3 years ago and let it set until I could find someone with the professionalism to repair it. It came with the box, receipt, warranty card and some advertising.

The starting point wasn’t that great. Before pic below.

Swatch Chronograph problem

Hi,

I have just changed the battery on my Swatch Irony chrono, and now the center sweep chrono hand is off ’12’ by 2 seconds, the 60 minute counter hand is also off by 2 mins, and the hour register hand is out by the same amount when they are reset. Is this something that is easy to fix, or should I just junk the watch? Any advice would be really useful.

Waltham WW2 A-11 Hack Watch

Hi everyone,
Let me start by saying that I’m a novice when it comes to watchmaking—but I’d like to think I’m learning quickly and have the right tools for the job. What I’m still lacking, though, is hands-on troubleshooting experience.

On the bench this week is an early 1940s manual Waltham A-11 Hack Watch from World War II.

I actually have three of these movements—each with different issues or missing components—so I’m combining the best parts in…

2824 reversing wheels immersion lubrication

I have a 2824 in one of my beaters that I serviced maybe 4 years ago and it gets very little wear, maybe a couple of hours a week on average. It has started helicoptering. Most of my services are on practice movements and get little use so I don’t have a lot of watches to go on but my guess is this one failed due to overlubrication on my part. In the past I have just been using 9010 in the proper places but without Epilame.

I bought an essence jar and Lubeta V105 so I am trying to…

I broke it

I had an NHxx movement running well and being new to the hobby, I removed the balance just to practice installing a balance.

The movement refuses to run now, and I’m struggling to understand what it could be.

I didn’t break anything. I removed, cleaned and lubed the cap jewels to see if that would help, No luck.

Just wondering if anything jumps out as a cause to the experienced.

Seiko Speed-Timer Crystal

Hi everyone!

I am having my ’70 Seiko Speed Timer serviced by a local watchmaker and he told me my crystal is not original. I am looking to source an original crystal if possible. Anyone have one or know of a anyone who may have one?

Thanks,
Chris

WOTB 3-22-25 quartz edition

Ya, like I’m any good at quartz movements!

Still, that’s what I’m doing today. Cleaning, changing batteries, polishing stuff up. They need attention too, right?

This last Timex expedition is nice, has a metal case, but the black is wearing off and I’d like some suggestions as to what I can use to darken it up.

This Gruen needed a new crystal and light brushing of the case and…
