Tissot Seastar stops working when hands are attached

Dear community,

I’m very new to this universe of watch making/restoring. I’m getting my hands fixing and restoring simple movements and i have a situation recently that I cannot find the root cause and would love to get some advice from experienced watchmakers from this forum 😉

I’m trying to fix an automatic Tissot Seastar.
The watch works totally fine when the hands are off. Ticks very well and very precise.
As soon as I mount/attach the hands again, the balance weeks slows a lot and…

Help me finished my half baked dial?

Hello all!

I have been building “Seiko mods” of late with AliExpress sourced parts. (Successfully, lol)

Stupidly, I got a dumb idea in my head to build a watch based on a VK67 mechaquartz….but unfortunately there are no dials available. Let’s make one, “how hard can it be?”, lol

I’m an engineer by trade and have a nice home workshop/machine shop…but it’s not exactly tailored to making small stuff.

I’ve spent the last few weeks messing about with my CNC router and came up with this…

Seamaster 2254.50 Servicing

Hey Guys,

This is my first post here!

Sent my 2254.50 for servicing, it was losing time, had a short power reserve and the date disc wasn’t changing over fully.

However, there was an issue with my bezel. I noticed that at the top of the bezel, betw…

Next step in my watch-repair journey: Unknown Omega Pocket Watch

I started this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/exp…ing-started-with-servicing-for-myself.180073/

I started that thread trying to get into some watch repair, which I’ve been doing poorly (or at least with poor luck!). I had a ST36 that I screwed up badly, then a ST36 that a build went fine/well. THEN, a NH34 disassembly/reassembly that went without issue.

THEN, an Elgin 293 pocket watch that ended up having a busted balance that I’ll be unable to fix…

Making a GMT hand into a minute hand

Without any backstory, I need to make a GMT hand to work as a minute hand on a NH35 movement. I think my plan is to cut the hand off a minute hand ring but leaving a slight bit on the ring, then cut the ring off the GMT hand and cement it onto the stub…

Help Replacing Crystal in Bulova Hack A-11

My wife’s favorite watch has been her Bulova A-11 Hack Watch (Model 96A282), a contemporary tribute to the original A-11 — stock photo below. However, she broke the crystal. Citizen Watch Group (which includes Bulova support) said they can’t sell me a replacement part because they are out of stock for at least six months, and I would need to mail it in for service. However the watch is no longer under warranty, and I’d just like to replace the crystal myself.

Unfortunately, I’m not…

When the watchmaking tools include a socket set….

Important safety edit: Wear gloves or use nice block of soft wood if you’re using sockets to get the crystal out. I’m still feeling a couple of lugs in my palm, 24 hrs later.

Your reminder that sometimes automotive tools can help fix watches.

Had some fun on the work bench this long weekend with a vintage “VaLaire” 21 Jewel Super DatOMatic (by Mortima) dive watch that I (predictably) picked up at an online auction…and without considering the hints as to the size (the case is only…

Long term storage of gaskets

I have a watch that I love (a Grand Seiko) and I would like for it to stay waterproof for as long as possible. It is getting somewhat long in the tooth, and I know that after 30 years parts – especially gaskets – will become hard to find.

I have a few…

Dial numeral outline repair

I’m practicing on this water damaged timberland watch, and noticed that the outlines of the 2 numeral and 3 o’clock indice has fallen off. What would you use to put it back into place? Some type of jeweller’s glue? Thanks for any tips.
