you can see two 1803s in WG with fluted bezels here:

Is it a matter of condition (polished, wear) or is one of them just not original for an 1803?

I’m looking at this 16710 described as in "excellent and original condition. The dial and hands are flawless and original. The case and bracelet are matching and unpolished." L serial case with 78360/501B bracelet with N5 date code.

No box, no papers.

I’m new to vintage, and would really appreciate to read what the forum thinks about this watch.

Hey folks

I purchased a never worn 16700 Pepsi which is missing, and I’m concerned it’s being re-sold somehow and somewhere.

The watch shipped insured from Italy via Ferrari Group (who insures watches) on January 10. It arrived at FedEx in Memphis on January 12, where they clear it and are supposed to deliver. There was a 5 day delay in clearing it due to Fedex.

No scan since. Trust me, I know FedEx as we ship hundreds of packages a week with them. I’m getting cooperation.

I’m calling Memphis PD to attempt to file a police report, and to ask them to give me access to the pawn shop database like California has.

If you help me find it and I get it back, I’ll happily send you $1,000.

I’m pleased to join this forum and make my first post. As a passionate collector, I truly appreciate the wealth of knowledge here. Together with my father, I am currently exploring the purchase of his dream watch—a Rolex Explorer 1016 from 1966—and would greatly value your expert opinions.

Watch Details:
• Reference: 1016
• Year: 1966 (accompanied by original papers)
• Serial Number: 1499XXX
• Movement: Caliber 1570 (shouldn’t it be the former version?)
• Bracelet: 7206

Dial is a „Frog Foot“.

Questions:
• I have noticed that the minute hand appears to be too short—would you attribute this to a past service replacement?
• Given the above details, I would appreciate your insights on authenticity, originality, and any red flags to consider.
• Additionally, I would be grateful for an estimate of the current market value for a piece in this configuration.

This watch does not work…not sure what is wrong with it. It has the original case and original warranty papers. Can anyone give me a rough idea of its value as is?

Any speculation as to why Rolex briefly put a glossy/applied marker dial under a plastic crystal on the 5513 instead of following the language of the 16800 and 16660?

I hadn’t intended on buying a watch last Saturday (let alone a Rolex) but it was a case of right place, right time. In the space of 3 hours I’d went from seeing it in the shop window to owning it.

The place I bought it didn’t have access to the interior (they did say it had been authenticated………), so I bought it with the assurance that if anything was wrong then I could get a refund. Of course I’d hoped that it was correct and to my absolutely untrained eye it appears to be (with thanks to a watch repair shop yesterday who kindly popped the case and let me grab a couple of photos).

It since transpires that the watch passed through Bonhams in September 2024 (their pictures of the front of the watch are far better than any I can take). They didn’t have any pictures of the watch movement/case back so it was pleasing to see the movement number and "IV52" marking on the case back from their description match when it was opened yesterday. I’ve read through a few posts on here and I understand that it’s not possible to say with 100% certainty whether it would have been made in 1952 or 1953 (IV52 suggests 1952, 881XXX serial suggests either 1952 or 1953), hence the inclusion of both in the thread title.

I’m delighted with the purchase for a number of reasons. First and foremost I think it’s a great looking watch. The smaller case size suits my wrist and the price paid is in a range that I’m comfortable with (I doubt I could sleep with both the spend and then the wearing of anything modern from Rolex).

The watch is running circa 30s slow daily and I don’t plan on wearing it every day. I had considered having it serviced, but given it’s age and so far it appears to be working well enough, I don’t know if it’s worthwhile? More than happy to hear anyone’s thoughts on this.
