Seiko Spirit SBTM217 (Solar, JDM) – excellent “Middle Class Man’s Grand Seiko”

I’ve now owned the Seiko SBTM217 for around thee months. I can’t really call it a “Poor Man’s Grand Seiko” because it cost around $400 (US). But that’s a lot less than the least expensive quartz Grand Seiko, and the SBTM217 even has some nice features the more expensive watch doesn’t have.

This Solar watch is part of Seiko’s JDM Spirit line, with a list price of 58,000 yen. I bought it from japan-atmarket on eBay, and had no issues at all. Very easy…

The new Samurai thread

I think it’s time to start a thread covering the latest reissue, Seiko Samurai. The black dial on bracelet is supposed to launch in June, the other 3 versions in August/September. I reckon it will become bigger than turtle reissue and the manlike myself is aiming for the pepsi on rubber. So who’s got one on preorder and which one?

## The Never Ending Presage Wristie Thread ##

I’ve seen threads for Seiko Divers.

Threads for Pogues.

Threads for SARBs and SARYs.

Vintage Seikos.

Grand Seikos.

But haven’t come across a thread to display (show-off) some of the finest value-for-money Seikos on the planet.

So, without further ado, let me introduce the WUS Never Ending Presage Wristie Thread…………… I’ll even kick it off with a couple of contributions:

1. Seiko Presage Arita (Enamel dial)…

The question is not whether it can be repaired, but rather if it’s worth doing it.

Hi,

The watch fell from a height of almost 5 feet, miraculously the crystal didn’t break. Apart from that broken piece, the watch works perfectly but I don’t know how its water resistance might have been compromised. The watch has a list price of about $600, but I’ve seen that currently it can be found for $400, I was able to buy it a couple of years ago for $280. Perhaps that’s the worst part, that it will be difficult to get the same unit for such a good and low price.

What do you…

The question is not whether it can be repaired, but rather if it’s worth doing it.
