This watch showed up in my e-mail from Marc at Islander Watches. I am not a golfer but was intrigued and noticed the insertion of 109 yards instead of 100 meters. I was impressed with that addition, as well as the math. Nice job. The dial displayin…
Continue readingChronos: Why 30 min and not 60 min?
I have noticed a substantial number of chronographs, manual and automatic, which have a 30 minute timing subdial. This goes back to pre-WWII days up to the present. I understand the mechanics of the subdial but am puzzled why the subdial would only measure 30 minutes and not 60 minutes. Don’t get me started on why Tudor is 45 minutes. It seems logical that one hour would be a better choice. This question is for the historians out there. Is there a reason why the timing subdial for many…

A couple of weeks ago I sent an e-mail to Seiko’s Service Department with questions about the VK/8T movements (chronograph meca-quartz). So far, all I hear are crickets. Continue readingWhy is VK67/8T67 not the standard for mecaquartz watches?
I own a Seiko with a 8T67 movement (running seconds, 1 hour and 12 hour subdials). Non-Seiko watches with the same movement type use the VK67. Although I rarely time anything beyond one hour, the one thing I appreciate is that the watch does not have …

This popped up in an ad. You will notice the 13-24 hours on the dial and the repeat on the bezel. Missing are hours 1-12. Sometimes I truly wonder about the folks at Seiko.
