I get why the feature is on dive and “dive style” watches for the most part. Minimizing the chances of an inattentive owner flooding the watch by leaving the crown pulled is a smart thing.

Flooding is also nearly entirely preventable by having a pre-dive checklist that says, “Ensure crown is down,” if you’re subjecting the watch to its intended environment.

But I do not like finding the screw down crown on mechanical field watches or GMTs, where life would be much simpler without their…
