Revelation: If importing a watch worth over $X, then may as well take a trip to the seller’s country

Rationale is that the import duties and taxes would almost pay for the cost of the trip. So greatly subsidized, the trip is really worth it!

(Of course, maybe technically some countries require you to declare the watch on the way home, but what’s to prevent someone from wearing a Casio on the way out, and the luxury timepiece on the way back 😏)

For the US or Canada, I would put that X value around $5-6k. Obviously X depends on a number of factors:

Is there any excuse left for only 30m WR?

Common excuse we hear, “This is a thin, dainty, elegant dress watch. You want 100m water resistance, the watch has to be at least 11mm thick!”

Well counterpoint, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo at only 6.4mm thick has 100m WR! Cartier Santos around 8.5mm also has 100m WR

So as far as I’m concerned, and for the prices they are charging, luxury brands (looking at PP, AP, VC, JLC, even the Rolex dress line) have no excuse not to guarantee their regular watches to 100m water resistance. We…
