What is it with this? So many more places are card only now. Cash is king surely? I like cash. The banks don’t take a cut of my transaction when I pay with cash. It drives me nuts. Should I not be able to insist they take my cash as it’s legal tender?

I will continue to try to boycott all card only places. If we lose cash as a society we’ll never get it back.

Other than Apple watches, has anyone ever seen, heard of or owned a ‘normal’ watch with an aluminium case? I’d never heard of it until I was offered one by a micro brand this week. It’s exactly the same watch as their steel version other than the case material which makes it around half the weight. Water resistance is the same.

So Tommy T has announced his first England squad for the upcoming fixtures. What are your thoughts? There’s a few surprises in there for sure. I’m of the view that he knows what he’s doing so will have good reasons for including Henderson and Rashford for example. I like everyone else assumed (hoped) we’d seen the last of Henderson so Tuchel must have a master plan.

In-keeping with similar threads for other brands I thought it might be nice to have a dedicated Timex thread.

Timex is the brand that holds the most nostalgia for me as I’m sure it does for many here. I was under ten years old when I got my first watch, a Timex dive watch. I loved it. I didn’t know it was a dive watch at the time, I just knew that I loved it. I also remember desperately wanting a calculator Timex watch. I saved my pocket money (I’d had a raise from 50p to 75p a week) until I got the £10 I needed to buy one.

I got the bus into Newcastle with my Grandad and walked from Haymarket bus station and along Percy Street to Tik Tok watch shop. I was so excited, I couldn’t get there fast enough. That feeling, that experience of being in the watch shop, trying it on and buying it with my own money is one of my favourite memories. You just can’t beat those memories!

That was obviously the beginning of the obsession.

I’ve always kept an eye on the brand offerings but lost a lot of interest for several decades. However now I believe there’s a real resurgence with some pretty iconic and retro inspired re-releases such as the Q and Snoopy ranges. I can see myself getting back into the brand now at the ripe old age of almost 53.

The Snoopy watches are brilliant fun. Cheap and cheerful and always smile-inducing. The Q range has some wonderfully retro pieces, one of which I’ve picked up recently and I think they’ve absolutely nailed it. I give you the Q Timex Re-issue 1971 Velocity 36mm. Retro race themed dial, 36mm case and domed plexi make this little thing so cool. The more I wear it, the cooler it gets. On my future purchase list is the Q Chronograph x Peanuts Snoopy 40mm aka the Timex Snoopy Moon Watch. So that’s my trip down memory lane.

I was in the garage and stumbled. I put my hand out to stop myself and pressed the yellow button on the fuse box. Everything went off and the black switch to the right of it went to the off position. I now can’t get it to go back to the on position. It will flick up but comes back down. All the lights work in the house but none of the sockets. I’m now going to unplug everything and try it again to see if that helps. Any other advice is appreciated.

Why do these things always happen on a Sunday?

Well, £430 to be precise. Apart from the Seiko from the 70s they were all bought new by me. I can’t fault any of them and enjoy them all.

This hobby doesn’t have to be expensive.

I’ve just seen these so thought I’d share. The NTTD is my favourite of the Omega dive range and I always wondered what it would look like on a bracelet. These will be good quality and in my opinion look amazing. Pretty good price too.
