I’m ready to acquire my most sought after Rolex, a 36 mm Day Date ref 128238. I had a few questions and was hoping for any insights before I make the purchase. My desired configuration is Yellow Gold with Champagne dial and solid hour markers. I appreciate these newest models are absent any lume on the hands or dial, which is my preference.

Is there a general opinion on the 3255 movement found in this reference? My Datejust and Explorer/OP have the 3135 ad 3230 movements, respectively, and all appear to share the base 3135 caliber. I have been very pleased with the performance of these watches over the last several years.

Is there a prior movement/caliber so renowned for its quality that I should consider an older/vintage piece versus going for a brand new model?

From the experience of the users here, have you found any advantage or disadvantage to White gold versus Yellow gold? I prefer monotone watches, and my Datejust is SS with white gold fluted bezel and silver dial, so it would be a bit redundant to go after a White gold model it seems. I’m aware the gold material will be softer, but I’m not afraid of the watch showing its wear.

I appreciate your insights.
