I’ve noticed that when my washing machine drains water backs up all over the utility room (it’s a brand new machine – I replaced the old one as it did the same thing). At the same time the kitchen sink clogs indicating to me the pipes are connected.

I’ve got a plumber coming on Thursday- I assume this isnt a straightforward Mr Muscle Unclogging gel situation and there’s a blockage on the washing machine pipe side that they’ll need to sort? Just trying to make sure I don’t get scammed with a massive bill

Assuming the average pensioner lives to 83 and starts taking out at 66 that’s 17 years at around £12k a year state pension so a total cost of around £204k per head.

What would be the flaw if instead the government stuck £25k for each new born child into a stock market tracker that activates as withdrawable from the age of 65? Assuming a modest 5% above inflation return annually (historically it’s more like 7%) that would see the fund at just shy of £600k in today’s money per pensioner at 65.

I assume I’m not a once in a generation genius and other folk have thought of this rather simple idea so what’s the flaw?

Rolex took the decision to stop Bucherer making watches under the Carl F Bucherer brand, citing unprofitability. Shame as I liked their watches but never enough to actually buy one at the requested prices, which kind of reinforces Rolex’s point.

I’d imagine there will be a sale of them soon via Bucherer’s website.

Due to a slow SC last year many of my watches sold on Ebay. Probably around £30k or so in transactions, all pre owned watches and all at a loss and I was expecting hassle from HMRC but have been advised HMRC only get reports from Ebay if you’ve sold more than 30 items and not based on the total value of sales. So you could sell a Patek Minute Repeater and they’d not be interested – it’s only if you exceed their threshold of 30 items sold in a year.

Will confirm for sure when I do my tax return in April/May but that’s the guidance I was given and I’ve certainly had no Ebay statement come through which folks who have been flagged to HMRC have received.

My son has been poorly for a week with very high fever (41 degrees) and coughing and he’s passed it to me. I’m on the 3rd day, 39.5 degree fever, heavy cough that is extremely painful on the ribs.

Has anyone else had similar? It seems heavier than a cold but not as severe as a nasty flu – i reckon the elderly would have a particularly bad time with it so it’s worth getting your winter flu jabs.
